I’m going to be at the Selvedge Maker’s Fair o I’m going to be at the Selvedge Maker’s Fair on 12 July at the American Museum near Bath, with books, darning kits and vintage mushrooms. Come and say hello if you’re near Bath. There’s lots of other fantastic makers exhibiting too; I’m looking forward to sampling their wares. Lots to see in the museum collection including fab quilts. @quickthornbooks @SelvedgeMagazine

I have the urge to say something. Yet there is a fear of being coerced. The power of identification is very strong as l project my feelings onto the shapes. Some of the drawings are about today, here, now, this very moment. Others are about memories, conscious and unconscious!’

As seen at the People’s history Museum, Manchester @phmmcr I was there for a @heritagecrafts strategy day wherein we planned what amazing things they’ll do next. The next book @quickthornbooks is Earth, Fire, Ironabout the renaissance in artist blacksmiths.

The Co-operative Smiths’ Society was a small union of blacksmiths covering the area around Newcastle-upon-Tyne, formed around 1870.
An uplifted hand (you can see it in the centre of the banner) is the symbol of the blacksmiths. The phrase ‘by hammer and hand all arts do stand is a shortened version of the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths motto. The Co-operative Smiths’ Society eventually became part of the Amalgamated Society of Boilermakers, Shipwrights, Blacksmiths and Structural Workers.
